Dutch films selected for Tribeca 2013

April 9, 2013

Two films from the Netherlands have been selected for the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York (April 17 - 28). The documentary Raw Herring by directors Leonard Retel Helmrich and Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich will have its world premiere at the festival and Tricked by Paul Verhoeven is a North-American premiere. Both Leonard Retel Helmrich and Paul Verhoeven have confirmed their attendance.

Raw Herring will be screened as part of the World Documentary Competition. It is produced by In-Soo Productions and the script is by Leonard Retel Helmrich, Esther Gould and Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich. The documentary shows the last real herring fishers of Holland.

Paul Verhoeven’s Tricked, produced by FCCE, is selected for the “Tribeca Talks: After the Movie”. Following the screening Verhoeven will participate in a panel discussion and talk about his experiences of making this groundbreaking movie. It has been made as a crowd sourced project where fans were invited to help complete the script of which the first four minutes had been written by Kim van Kooten and Robert Alberdingk Thijm.
Tricked consists of a 32-minute behind the scenes documentary followed by the result of this creative experience: a 50-minute drama of lies and betrayal.

Tricked had its world premiere at the Rome Film Festival and has recently been sold to D Street Releasing in the US, who is planning a limited release in New York and Los Angeles in the fall.

Also included in the Tribeca programme are two minority Dutch co-productions: The Broken Circle Breakdown, a Belgian/Dutch co-production by Felix van Groeningen (NL co-producer: Topkapi Films), is part of the World Narrative Competition and included in the Midnight section is the American/Dutch co-production Frankenstein’s Army by Richard Raaphorst (NL co-producer: Pellicola).
