Dutch Docs at Hot Docs 2010

Five Dutch documentaries and one Dutch co-production are selected for North America’s largest documentary festival, the Canadian International Documentary Festival Hot Docs 2010. The festival will take place from April 29 – May 9, 2010 in Toronto.

THE PLAYER by John Appel (Cobos Films), a film about gambling, winning and losing, based on the director’s memories of his father, and WISTFUL WILDERNESS by Digna Sinke (SNG Film), are selected for the International Spectrum Competition. THE PLAYER premiered during the International Documentary Film festival Amsterdam IDFA 2009. WISTFUL WILDERNESS, showing the changing landscape of the Dutch island Tiengemeten from a very personal perspective, will have its North American premiere in Toronto. WISTFUL WILDERNESS is also selected for the International Documentary Film Festival Visions du Réel in Nyon (April 15 – 21, 2010).

At Hot Docs special presentations will take place as well of the documentaries THE RAINBOW WARRIORS OF WAIHEKE ISLAND by Suzanne Raes (IDTV Docs), FAREWELL by Ditteke Mensink (Pieter van Huystee Film), VIEWS ON VERMEER by Hans Pool (Lagestee Film) and the co-production KINGS OF PASTRY (VPRO).
