CHUBBY DRUMS Platinum film
Dutch feature film CHUBBY DRUMS (directed by Arne Toonen) has reached the status of Platinum Film for more than 400.000 tickets sold, since its theatrical release in the Netherlands on November 24, 2010.
The film already had a very good start. Within just 2 days after its theatrical release, the fattest film of the year entered the Dutch Top 20 of most visited films at number 6 and within 5 days CHUBBY DRUMS received 30.000 visitors. On December 14 the film received the status of Golden Film for more than 100.000 tickets sold.
CHUBBY DRUMS, original title DIK TROM, is a fun family film, based on the characters from the books by C. Joh. Kievit. Dik is a happy, honest and slightly overweight boy whose parents one day decide to move to Thin City to open a restaurant. But it seems that a waistline-altering restaurant is the last thing Thin City wants. Dik (his name means fat in Dutch) is also having trouble blending in and is, for the first time, aware of his own body - especially after falling in love with Lieve. Will Dik win her heart? And will Thin City realise that calories are really not so important?
The Golden/Platinum/Diamond Film Award is an initiative presented by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund since 2001. The prize is intended to encourage the Dutch film industry and motivate the general public to go and see Dutch films. The total number of tickets sold after a film’s release determines whether a prize is awarded.
CHUBBY DRUMS is produced by Eyeworks Film & TV Drama and is distributed in the Netherlands by Benelux Film Distributors. The film is Arne Toonen’s first feature film.
