BOYS wins big at Zlín Intl Film Festival

Dutch feature Boys
by director Mischa Kamp has won no less than four awards at the Zlín
International Film Festival for Children and Youth (Czech Republic). The
film, written by Chris Westendorp and Jaap Peter Enderlé and produced
by Pupkin in co-production with NTR, received the Golden Apple Audience
Award for best feature film, the Children's Jury Main Prize for best
feature film for youth, the Miloš Macourek Award for best youth
performance in a feature film for youth for actor Gijs Blom and the
Ecumenical Jury Award for best youth film.
At the 54th edition of
the Zlín International Film Festival, which takes place May 30 – June
5, a total of fifteen films from the Netherlands are screened. Eight
features are selected for various competitive sections and seven Dutch
shorts, both live action and animation, are included in the programme.
Boys
is a festival favourite at the moment and the North-American premiere
just took place at the end of May at the Seattle International Film
Festival, followed by screenings at among others the San Diego Film
Festival – FilmOut and the Frameline San Francisco GLFF. Berlin-based
sales outfit M-appeal has already sold the title to the UK, Germany,
Poland, France, Taiwan and the US, where it will get a limited
theatrical release.
Boys tells the story of Sieger, who is
training for the national relay championships when he meets the
intriguing and unpredictable Marc. The friendship that develops seems
nothing out of the ordinary, but Sieger secretly harbours stronger
feelings for Marc, engaging in a lonely struggle with himself. But then
it emerges that Marc is also in love with him...
