BOYS wins big at Zlín Intl Film Festival

June 4 2014

Dutch feature Boys by director Mischa Kamp has won no less than four awards at the Zlín International Film Festival for Children and Youth (Czech Republic). The film, written by Chris Westendorp and Jaap Peter Enderlé and produced by Pupkin in co-production with NTR, received the Golden Apple Audience Award for best feature film, the Children's Jury Main Prize for best feature film for youth, the Miloš Macourek Award for best youth performance in a feature film for youth for actor Gijs Blom and the Ecumenical Jury Award for best youth film.

At the 54th edition of the Zlín International Film Festival, which takes place May 30 – June 5, a total of fifteen films from the Netherlands are screened. Eight features are selected for various competitive sections and seven Dutch shorts, both live action and animation, are included in the programme.

Boys is a festival favourite at the moment and the North-American premiere just took place at the end of May at the Seattle International Film Festival, followed by screenings at among others the San Diego Film Festival – FilmOut and the Frameline San Francisco GLFF. Berlin-based sales outfit M-appeal has already sold the title to the UK, Germany, Poland, France, Taiwan and the US, where it will get a limited theatrical release.

Boys tells the story of Sieger, who is training for the national relay championships when he meets the intriguing and unpredictable Marc. The friendship that develops seems nothing out of the ordinary, but Sieger secretly harbours stronger feelings for Marc, engaging in a lonely struggle with himself. But then it emerges that Marc is also in love with him...
