A SINGLE LIFE shortlisted for the Oscars

6 November 2014

Short animated film A Single Life, directed, animated and produced by Job, Joris & Marieke was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Short Animated Film 2015. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced the 10 animated short films that will advance in the voting process for the 87th Academy Awards®. The shortlist was selected from fifty-eight shorts that had originally qualified in the category.

A Single Life had its world premiere last September at the Toronto International Film Festival and was also selected for New York International Children’s Film Festival, Leuven International Short Film Festival (Belgium) and the New York CBGB Music & Film Festival, amongst others.
Job Roggeveen (1979), Joris Oprins (1980)  and  Marieke Blaauw (1979) founded their studio in 2007 and made a large number of animated films and music videos. Their work has been selected by many international film festivals, like Mute (short, 2013), Born with a Bothered Mind (music video for Happy Camper, the music project of Job Roggeveen, 2011) and the Tumblies (animation series, 2013).

In A Single Life, Pia is suddenly able to travel through her life, when playing a mysterious vinyl single.

Last Dutch animated short to win an Oscar® was Father & Daugther by Michael Dudok de Wit and produced by CinéTé (Willem Thijssen), in 2000. The last Dutch animated short film to be shortlisted for the Academy Awards was Variété (Variety) by Roelof van den Bergh, produced by il Luster Productions, in 2010.

On Thursday 15 January 2015 the nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced in all categories. The Oscars® ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
