Record number of Dutch moviegoers 2010

2010 was another good year for cinema, movie theaters and art houses in The Netherlands. Both the box-office results and visitor numbers rose. Over 28 million movie tickets were sold, the highest number in 30 years.

The results over 2010 were presented last Tuesday by the Dutch Cinema Exhibitors' Association, the Dutch Film Distributors’ Association and the Dutch Association of Feature Film Producers in Pathé Tuschinski in Amsterdam.

Two Dutch films are listed in the overall top ten of most visited films in 2010. Feature film NEW KIDS: TURBO attracted over 727,000 visitors and stands with a turnover of almost six million Euros in fifth place. THE HAPPY HOUSEWIFE is in tenth place with 520,000 visitors and a turnover of over 3.8 million Euros.

Other Dutch films that did well at the box-office are STRICKEN (from 2009), which had over 1.2 million tickets sold and a box-office of € 9.25 million. SAINT, CHUBBY DRUMS, FUCHSIA THE MINI WITCH, EEP! and SINTERKLAAS EN HET PAKJESMYSTERIE attracted over 200,000 visitors each to the cinema. TIRZA, the Dutch entry for the Oscars, attracted 175,000 visitors.
