Variété BY ROELOF VAN DEN BERGH DUTCH SUBMISSION ACADEMY AWARD BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM

The Dutch short fiction film Sunset From a Rooftop  by Marinus Groothof will be the Dutch entry for the Academy Award Best Live Action Short Film. The film is produced by Gertjan Langeland and Sander Verdonk for LEV Pictures.

Sunset From a Rooftop takes place in Belgrade. While the city is being hit by NATO-bombings, Ivana is preparing herself in the early evening for a night out and telling her boyfriend the news of her pregnancy.

The Dutch short animation film Variété by Roelof van den Bergh will be the Dutch entry for the Academy Award Best Animated Short Film. The film is produced by Arnoud Rijken and Michiel Snijders for il Luster Productions.

In Variété a young plate spinner starts his act by placing his parents on two of his plates. He spins them around fast, balancing them high on top of the long pole. Then he does the same with a girlfriend and a school teacher. While he keeps several poles with plates and with people in balance, the artist slowly grows older. His act becomes hectic and difficult when more and more people want him to spin them around and soon plates are beginning to fall….

Over de last couple of years production company Il Luster has been involved in many original animated films. In 2008 Il Luster submissioned The Phantom of the Cinema Erik van Schaaik to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

On February 2, 2010, the nominations for Best Live Action Short Film Award will be announced. The Oscars will be awarded on March 7, 2010.
