A SINGLE LIFE and 97 to the Oscars

Short fiction film 97% and short animated film A SINGLE LIFE were selected by an independent committee of Dutch film professionals to be submitted to the Academy Awards in the categories Live Action Short Film and Animated Short Film.


97% is directed by Ben Brand, screenplay by Thomas van der Ree and produced by Caviar. 

Ben Brand (1985) graduated at the Netherlands Film Academy with a short fiction film DAY BY DAY (2010), for which he received the grand jury prize for best short at the SMHAFF film festival in Scotland. Currently Brand is working as a commercial director for Amsterdam based production company Caviar. Besides commercials he just made his first independent short films: 97% and LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL (animation, 2013), both produced by Caviar.

Since its premiere in September 2013, 97% screened at over 30 international film festivals, a.o. Aspen International Short Film Festival and Interfilm Festival in Berlin. The film has won several international awards and nominations at film festivals in France, Germany and The Netherlands.

97% match! BERT receives an app alert that his dream-girl is nearby. But he must find her before the train reaches the end of the line.

A SINGLE LIFE is directed, animated and produced by Job, Joris & Marieke. 

Job Roggeveen (1979), Joris Oprins (1980) en Marieke Blaauw (1979) founded their studio in 2007 and together they have now made a large number of animated films and music videos. Their work has been selected by many international film festivals. They gained international recognition with films like MUTE (short animation, 2013), which won the audience and jury award of the Holland Animation Film Festival (HAFF), audience award at the International Film Festival Roanne and Best Animation at Playgrounds. They are one of the initiators of the animation series the TUMBLIES. They made several music videos for Happy Camper (the music project of Job Roggeveen), a.o. BORN WITH A BOTHERED MIND (2010), which screened at over 50 film festivals. 

The film will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada, which takes place 4 - 14 September, in the Short Cuts International Competition

In A SINGLE LIFE, Pia is suddenly able to travel through her life, when playing a mysterious vinyl single.

On Thursday 15 January 2015 the nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced in all categories. The Oscars® ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
